RETURNING Student Registration

Attention students of the 2013-2014 season intending to return for the new season beginning in the fall of 2014: Returning student re-registration will formally open on June 8, the day of the SDMC year-end picnic. The information below will be updated by that time.

These instructions are for students who were admitted SDMC participants during the 2013-2014 school year. If you were such a student during the 2013-2014 school year, you have already done the following:

  • Submitted a Liability Waiver form for the 2013-2014 school year.
  • Submitted a headshot photo.
  • Completed an SDMC Student Profile as a shared GoogleDoc.
  • Received a permanent SDMC ID Code.

During the remainder of June and the month of July, we ask you to do the following:

  • Submit a NEW Liability Waiver form for the 2014-2015 school year. This is required; your prior year Liability Waiver is no longer valid. Download the 2014-2015 waiver form HERE and submit a high-resolution PDF scan of the properly-completed waiver to . We remind everyone that "properly completed" means ALL indicated fields completed and original pen-and-ink signatures applied, not using cursive computer fonts in lieu of original signatures. Please use a scanner set to PDF at high resolution; do not "photograph" your form. Failing to comply with these requirements will only result in the rejection of your submission.
  • Submitting a new headshot photo is optional, but encouraged; it is common for students to mature visibly in just one year and we use these photos to assist our volunteers in visually recognizing students. Please submit photos at a minimum of 640x480 pixels in a common photo format (JPG, PNG, GIF) NOT a document format (DOC, PDF). What we need is a simple head-and-shoulders passport-like photo. Please do not submit group photos or vacation shots, interesting though these may be; this is one time when boring is better! Headshot photos should be submitted as attachments to .
  • Updating your Student Profile on GoogleDocs is important. Common changes include: email addresses, cell phone numbers, schools, grade levels, parent service interests and financial pledges. Common additions include extracurricular math and science activities, summer programs attended, independent study activities completed, competition scores, etc. Text entries made by students and/or parents in various places in the Student Profile may need to be revised - past remarks may need to be revised or new text additions may be appropriate. In short, please review the Student Profile top to bottom and make any changes that are needed to bring it up to date. To update your Student Profile, remember that it is shared with the "primary email" (a parent email address) used as the anchor for your SDMC participation, and may also have been shared with a student email address. If you cannot recall what address(es) you used for this purpose, please let us know and we will assist you.
  • Your SDMC ID Code is permanent and does not need to be updated unless there is some error to be corrected. If you encountered any problems with your ID Code during the past year, please let us know and we will investigate.
  • Let us know: When you have completed your update, please let us know and we will "check you off" - if you don't tell us you are done, we don't know. If you change any of your contact information, please advise us of this specifically so we don't misdirect any communications.

If you were a "new" or "transitional" student during the past year, this is a time for some reflection and evaluation. We especially ask our families with students transitioning to high school to consider thoughtfully whether continuing with SDMC is their best choice considering the breadth of worthwhile activities that is open to students in high school.

Closely related is the fact that some families who are new to SDMC discover after a first year that the SDMC experience is not what they first expected. We similarly encourage such families to thoughtfully consider whether SDMC is the right activity with which to continue in the fall.

While we wish to encourage every student in their growth in mathematics, our experience is that the students who benefit most from SDMC are those well suited by ability, enthusiasm, and family support. If you decide for any reason that continuing with SDMC is not the right choice for you or your family, please let us know this in clear terms. This will help us understand what space we may have available to accept new students in the fall.

Important financial note: In the past, financial contributions in support of SDMC have been processed for us by the Art of Problem Solving Foundation. This is no longer the case. SDMC is now an independently incorporated entity. Any checks written as donations in support of SDMC activities should be made payable to "San Diego Math Circle". If you intend to make a donation via a company match program, please contact us for specific information about this.

Thank you.
