EPGY Cluster
SDMC has recently negotiated an arrangement with EPGY through which SDMC-affiliated families can have streamlined access to EPGY's K-8 math education software at a strongly reduced price. This is made possible through EPGY's "Open Enrollment" program. SDMC is not partnered with EPGY in any business sense, but does accept certain administrative responsabilities in respect to the cluster as a community service.
This step has been taken in response to ongoing requests from San Diego families seeking help with young children in diverse personal circumstances and also from SDMC families of active students where younger siblings could clearly benefit.
Note that unlike EPGY's individual programs which require screening examinations to assess a students' math ability level, there is no such screening for the Open Enrollment program, though the materials and methodologies are the same as in the individual program. Since EPGY's software is flexible and adaptable with respect to ability level, this means that the same technology can be used by students who need above-grade-level math content and by students who may need remedial assistance.
EPGY's K-8 program is entirely computer based and is well designed for use in the family context, making it a very practical educational tool for younger children (e.g., in grades 4 and below who cannot yet participate in SDMC's programs) or for students through middle school who are motivated to learn independently.
Families may participate in EPGY's Open Enrollment program independently of SDMC, but will then face certain administrative and logistical challenges (found in EPGY's Open Enrollment literature). By joining SDMC's EPGY cluster, participation is streamlined with most of the administative and logistical challenges handled more or less automatically through association with SDMC. The cost of participation is the same.
Information about the EPGY Open Enrollment program may be found at the following links; however, bear in mind that essentially all the conditions you may find related to numbers of families in a cluster, school association, geographic boundaries, or administration are either waived or greatly simplified by participating through SDMC's EPGY cluster. Note that the main information page contains numerous subpages with additional information relating to frequently asked questions, course content, tuition, etc.

Note that EPGY provides access to its educational software at a strongly reduced price because most support needs are to be handled locally within the cluster. EPGY will not track student progress nor provide technical support beyond the minimum needed to support student registration in the program. EPGY does not provide tutorial support and will not provide transcripts of completed work. We anticipate that local support needs will be handled adequately by SDMC volunteers and that any needs for communication can be simply integrated with other ongoing SDMC practices. Cluster families should direct most inquiries to local support volunteers, not EPGY itself.
